Sweetly spiced, citrusy cocktail with a complex flavor profile

Instructions

Description: Inspired by the warm hues of a Moroccan sunset and the classic romance of the film "Casablanca," this cocktail is a sweetly spiced, citrusy blend with a complex flavor profile that evokes the mystery and allure of an exotic getaway. The addition of a smoky element recalls the ambiance of an old-fashioned lounge, perfect for sipping as the sun dips below the horizon. Ingredients: - 1 1/2 oz White rum (preferably a smooth, aged variety) - 1/2 oz Moroccan mint tea syrup (homemade or store-bought) - 1/2 oz Fresh squeezed blood orange juice - 1/4 oz Fresh lemon juice - 1/4 oz Pomegranate juice - 2 dashes Orange bitters - 1/2 oz Mezcal (for layering) - Edible gold dust for garnish (optional) - Fresh mint sprig for garnish - Thinly sliced blood orange wheel for garnish Moroccan Mint Tea Syrup: - 1 cup water - 1 cup sugar - 2 tbsp loose Moroccan mint tea leaves or 2 Moroccan mint tea bags Instructions: 1. Begin by creating the Moroccan mint tea syrup: in a saucepan, combine water and sugar and bring to a simmer. Add the Moroccan mint tea leaves or tea bags, and simmer for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat, let steep for 20 minutes, then strain to remove tea leaves or bags. Allow the syrup to cool before using. 2. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the white rum, Moroccan mint tea syrup, blood orange juice, lemon juice, and pomegranate juice. Add the orange bitters. 3. Shake vigorously until well-chilled. 4. In a chilled coupe glass, carefully pour the mezcal to create a thin layer at the bottom. 5. Strain
