The Yellow Basil Smash

This modern original cocktail features the robust flavors of bourbon and the herbaceous, yet sweet, yellow chartreuse. The bright, fresh taste of basil adds just the right amount of zest to balance out the intense flavors of the spirits. Ingredients: - 1.5 oz bourbon - 0.5 oz yellow chartreuse - 1 oz fresh basil syrup - 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice - Fresh basil leaves for garnish To make the basil syrup, combine 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, and a handful of fresh basil leaves in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the basil wilts. Remove from heat and let cool. Strain the mixture and discard the basil leaves. To make the cocktail, combine the bourbon, yellow chartreuse, basil syrup, and lemon juice in a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled glass with ice.
