The Tropical Havana Nights cocktail is a vibrant homage to the sultry evenings of Havana, fusing traditional Cuban flavors with a homemade twist. Ingredients: - 2 oz Aged Cuban rum (or a quality aged rum if Cuban is not available) - 1 oz Homemade Spice Syrup (recipe below) - 1 oz Fresh lime juice - 1/2 oz Fresh pineapple juice - 1 tsp Maraschino liqueur - Dash of Angostura bitters - Edible flower for garnish (such as an orchid or pansy) - Ice cubes Homemade Spice Syrup: - 1 cup water - 1 cup granulated sugar - 1 cinnamon stick - 3 cloves - 1 star anise - 1/2 tsp grated nutmeg Spice Syrup Preparation: 1. In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise, and grated nutmeg. 2. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved. 3. Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes to infuse the spices. 4. Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature. 5. Strain out the spices and transfer the syrup to a clean bottle or jar. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Cocktail Preparation: 1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. 2. Add the aged rum, homemade spice syrup, fresh lime juice, fresh pineapple juice, Maraschino liqueur, and a dash of Angostura bitters to the shaker. 3. Shake well until the outside of the shaker feels cold. 4. Strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe glass. 5. Garnish with an edible flower, carefully placing it on the surface of the drink.
